Ruth went to school in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. After only two school years, Ruth left to pursue an acting career. Her path did not come without challenges. While in New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills for crime magazines, the theatre work that she wanted eluded. The next position she was offered was the "hat check" woman at a nightclub before she gave up and relocated to Boston. The New England Repertory Company was the first job she had as a regular actor. She earned money by doing shifts during the day, working as an Usherette. She has also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she specialized in drama.
